Soon after the concrete was poured for the foundations we had a iight rain.

The City's Crew finishes tieing off the rebar needed for the foundations. Concrete is expected tomorrow.

The City of Galax's start of construction for the memorial was marked by a Construction Groundbreaking. The site grading was started and the existing shrubs were salvaged and transplated on the Galax Municipal Golf Course.

The Commanders and Presidents of all local area veterans organizations participate in the groundbreaking on the Library Grounds. Others in the groundbreaking party are Mayor C.M. Mitchell, City Manager Keith Holland, Korean POW Arthur "Buck" Burcham, Japan POW Glenn Caudell and Sharon Plichta, Veterans Memorial Fund Chariman, Vietnam Veteran and Galax City Council.
A portion of the estimated 150 individuals present for the groundbreaking.

The Veterans Memorial celebrated a groundbreaking on Memorial Day. More than 150 vetereans and the general public attended the 10:00 a.m. ceremony.

Soil boring tests were conducted by Blue Ridge Drilling, Inc., to determine the sub-soil conditions for construction of the veterans memorial. The boring test results will determine the type and size of foundations required to support the memorial features.

At their regularly scheduled meeting on January 12th, the Galax City Council approved a resolution to award an architectural and engineering services contract to architect Doug Williams of Galax. Williams services will include schematic design; final design; preparation of bid documents; and bidding, negotiation and construction administration.
January 7, 2009
An Architectural and Engineering services proposal was received from the principal architectural firm. The proposal has been reviewed and will be submitted to the Galax City Council at their January 12, 2009 meeting for consideration.
December 12, 2008
The Memorial Committee to consider the RFQ met with the leading architect to discuss the architectial and engineering services to be provided. Updated information on the progress of the memorial design and special site considerations at the Galax Public Library site were discussed. A services proposal is expected within 4 weeks.

A committee for the review of a RFQ (Request for Qualifications) met to consider proposals from qualified architectial/engineering firms for the design of the construction drawings for the Twin County Veterans Memorial.
October 15, 2008
At a regularly scheduled meeting of the Galax City Council, the council passed a resolution designating a site next to the Galax Public Library for the construction of the Twin County Veterans Memorial.
